General

The Rhino Lodge and Hotel is a very nice and comfortable Hotel in Sauraha, Chitwan. The rooms are very clean and in good condition and the prices are very reasonable.

The staff are very well trained, very, very friendly and try to help wherever they can. The rooms are situated very nicely in a well kept compound near the river and the terrace of the Restaurant provides a beautiful view to the other side of the river. Because the Lodge is near the Chitwan National Park, rhinos sometimes come to graze in the area behind the buildings and can be watched from the Hotel terrace.

ACCOMMODATION
The rhino Lodge offers comfortable, en-suite double rooms in thatched safari-style huts. Situated around the shady, landscaped garden, the leafy trees and bright flowers attract many birds and butterflies. Each room has its own balcony with views across the river, to the jungle and over o the hills beyond. At dusk, sit and relax after a day of activities in the park and watch the boats and the elephants, fishermen and farmers emerge from the jungle and make their way home as the sun begins to set on the horizon.

The Rhino Lodge menu consists of Nepali, Chinese and continental dishes as well as a wide vegetarian choice and a well-stocked bar, All food is hygienically prepared with utmost care and boiled filtered water is available. Friendly, competent, English-speaking staff are always available to attend to all request and needs. The Rhino Lodge maintains a welcoming, family atmosphere so guests will feel always at home and have a thoroughly enjoyable time in Chitwan.

ELEPHANT SAFARI
Explore the jungle in the traditional way aboard one of these majestic and gentle creatures. Experiencing the jungle from an elephant is one of the best ways to see birds and animals, these fearless mammals will not hesitate to approach even the rhino.

CANOE RIDE
Glide silently down the river accompanied by just the calling of the birds and the sound of gracefully flowing water. From the dug-out canoe the guide will show you many of the brightly coloured birds that fish along the river and watch, from safety, the mugger and gharial crocodiles that bask along the river’s edge.

JUNGLE WALK
Search through the depths of the jungle and experience on foot the wild habitats of the rhino, deer, sloth bear and maybe even a Royal Bengal tiger.

ELEPHANT BREEDING CENTRE
Take a trip to see the baby elephants here at the breeding centre on the edge of the park. Take along some bananas and feed the young elephants yourself.

BIRD WATCHING
Rise early one morning and set out towards the jungle to view the many species of bird as the sun rises in the east and the new day dawns.

THARU VILLAGE VISIT
Taste a slice of Tharu culture at first-hand as a short ox-cart drive takes you into the centre of Tharu life both in the home and fields. In the evening your are invited to see the traditional Tharu Stick Dance; a powerful tribal dance with clashing sticks, loud drums and chanting. Join them in these traditional festive dances as darkness falls across the jungle and toe moon lights up the stage.

ELEPHANT BATH

A unique opportunity to join he elephant with its daily bath, Ride bareback into the river and help the elephant to scrub itself clean and cool down in the heat of the day.

JEEP SAFARI

From December to March/April (depending on the rains) visitors can take a drive in the jeep fight into the far depths of the jungle and travel across to areas that can’t be reached in a day by walking or elephant-back.

Sauraha also offers the attraction of the visitor centre as well as gift shops, restaurants, bakeries, chemist and bicycle hire is also available . Hire bikes and take a trip to the tranquil 20,000 lakes, and hour ride west from Sauraha or explore the surrounding villages along the network of tracks and pathways.
